1. Speak slowly. Many times foreign teachers speak the same speed they would to ESL students and the students can’t understand them. You have to speak really slowly to ESL students. At first you will feel like you are talking like a robot but it will be easier for your students to understand you.
2. Speak clearly. You really have to pronounce all of your words so ESL students can ear what you are saying properly. Often when people talk naturally, some of their words are slurred. For example “How are you’ll doing?”. You really need to seperate all of you words like this “How are you all doing?”
3. Get the students involved in hands on activities. Learning a new language can be hard and even tedious so make it fun. Get the students involved in some activities that they will enjoy.
4. Expose your students to western culture. ESL students love to learn about new cultures so introduce them to some interesting parts of your culture.
5. Give students many chances to practice speaking. ESL students are despite to perfect their English accent. They can also do this by speaking so any chance you get, practice speaking with them. Involve them in conversations.
